Joseph Gordon-Levitt is an American actor and filmmaker who received nominations for the Golden Globe Award for his leading roles in 500 Days of Summer (2009) and 50/50 (2011). He began acting as a child, appearing in films such as A River Runs Through It (1992) and Angels in the Outfield (1994), and gained recognition for his role as Tommy Solomon in the TV series 3rd Rock from the Sun (1996–2001). After a brief hiatus for education, he returned to the screen in films like Inception (2010), The Dark Knight Rises (2012), and Looper (2012). Gordon-Levitt also founded the online platform HitRecord, winning two Primetime Emmy Awards for his work. He wrote and directed the film Don Jon (2013), earning an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best First Screenplay.
