John Waters is an American filmmaker whose transgressive cult films gained prominence in the early 1970s. His notable works include Multiple Maniacs (1970), Pink Flamingos (1972), and Hairspray (1988), the latter of which was adapted into a successful Broadway musical and a 2007 film. Waters has also directed films such as Desperate Living (1977), Cry-Baby (1990), and Cecil B. Demented (2000). In addition to directing, he has acted in various films, including Excision (2012) and Sweet and Lowdown (1999). Waters received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2023.
