John Standing is an English actor who made his film debut in The Wild and the Willing (1962). He has appeared in notable films such as The Elephant Man (1980), V for Vendetta (2006), and A Good Woman (2004). His early career included significant stage performances in productions like The Importance of Being Earnest and Private Lives, earning him an Olivier Award nomination for Close of Play in 1979. On television, he portrayed Sidney Godolphin in The First Churchills (1969) and had roles in series like Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (1979) and Game of Thrones. Standing contributed his voice to the album Lost Horizons (2002).
