John Kitzmiller was the first Black actor to win the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actor in 1957 for his performance in the film Valley of Peace. He was an American actor who worked extensively in Europe, appearing in around 40 films. Kitzmiller played the role of Quarrel in the James Bond film Dr. No (1962). His career included work in Italy and the United Kingdom.
