John Kani is a South African actor, director, and playwright who gained acclaim for his role in the play 'Sizwe Banzi is Dead.' His debut as a playwright came with 'Nothing but the Truth' in 2002, which explores themes of post-apartheid South Africa. Kani's notable film appearances include 'The Ghost and the Darkness' (1996), 'Coriolanus' (2011), and 'Black Panther' (2018). He also lent his voice to the character Rafiki in 'The Lion King' (2019) and its prequel 'Mufasa: The Lion King' (2024). Kani has received numerous accolades, including a Tony Award. He is an executive trustee of the Market Theatre Foundation.
