John Hopkins is a British actor who played Sergeant Scott in the popular television series Midsomer Murders (1997). He studied English at the University of Leeds and won the Sunday Times student-actor award for his performance in A Short Play About Sex and Death. After graduating from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in 2000, he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company and performed in various productions, including Antony and Cleopatra alongside Patrick Stewart. His notable stage roles include Richard Hannay in The 39 Steps and Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing. On television, he appeared in Stan Lee's Lucky Man and portrayed Sir Francis Basset in the BBC drama Poldark. Hopkins has been recognized as one of the best British actors on stage.
