John Gavin was an American actor who served as the United States Ambassador to Mexico from 1981 to 1986. He appeared in notable films such as Imitation of Life (1959), Spartacus (1960), Psycho (1960), and Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967), often collaborating with producer Ross Hunter. Gavin, born Juan Vincent Apablasa Jr., had a diverse heritage that included Mexican, Chilean, and Spanish roots, and he was fluent in Spanish. He was also the president of the Screen Actors Guild from 1971 to 1973. Gavin's film career included significant roles, particularly in Psycho, where he delivered a memorable performance.
