John Gallagher Jr. is an American actor and musician who originated the role of Moritz Stiefel in the rock musical Spring Awakening, earning a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. He has appeared in various productions, including playing Johnny in Green Day's American Idiot and Edmund in the revival of Long Day's Journey Into Night. Gallagher starred as Jim Harper in Aaron Sorkin's The Newsroom and featured in the HBO mini-series Olive Kitteridge. His film credits include Emmett DeWitt in 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016), as well as roles in Peppermint (2018) and Underwater (2020).
