John Aylward was a notable American actor who portrayed Barry Goodwin in the television series The West Wing. He gained further recognition for his role as Dr. Donald Anspaugh on ER. Aylward's acting career began in theater, where he was a founding member of Seattle's Empty Space Theatre and performed with the Seattle Repertory Theatre for 15 years. His transition to television and film occurred in the 1990s, following an audition opportunity presented by ER co-producer Carol Flynt after she saw him in a stage production. He also lent his voice to Dr. Arne Magnusson in Half-Life 2: Episode Two. Aylward appeared in Just Visiting (2001).
