John Astin is an American actor who portrayed Gomez Addams in the television series The Addams Family (1964). He began his career with a small role in West Side Story (1961) and went on to appear in films such as That Touch of Mink (1962) and Move Over Darling (1963). Astin's work in television includes reprising his role as Gomez in Halloween with the New Addams Family (1977) and playing Grandpa Addams in The New Addams Family (1998). He has also lent his voice to various animated projects, including The Addams Family (1992). Astin was nominated for an Academy Award for his directorial debut with the short film Prelude (1968).
