Joe Simon was a pioneering American comic book writer and artist who co-created Captain America. He significantly impacted the comic book industry during the Golden Age, working as the first editor for Timely Comics, which later became Marvel Comics. Alongside his collaborator Jack Kirby, Simon developed notable characters and series such as the 1940s Sandman, the Newsboy Legion, and Fighting American. He also played a crucial role in establishing romance comics and was influential in the horror genre. In addition to his comic work, Simon founded the satirical magazine Sick in 1960 and was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1999. His legacy is celebrated in works like Stan Lee (2023).
