JoBeth Williams is an American actress and director who received an Academy Award nomination for her directorial debut, the short film On Hope (1994). She gained fame through her performances in notable films such as Stir Crazy (1980), Poltergeist (1982), and The Big Chill (1983). Williams has been nominated three times for an Emmy Award, including for her roles in the TV movie Adam (1983) and the miniseries Baby M (1988). She starred in the series The Client (1995–96) and had recurring roles in Dexter (2007) and Private Practice (2009–11). In addition to her acting career, she has served as President of the Screen Actors Guild Foundation since 2009. Her film Desert Bloom was released in 1986.
