Jessica Pimentel is an American actress who played Maria Ruiz in 'Orange Is the New Black' (2013). Raised in Brooklyn, she has a diverse heritage including Dominican and Taino Native American roots. Pimentel graduated from the High School for the Performing Arts and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, where she earned a degree in Theater Arts and received the Cleavon Little scholarship. In addition to her acting career, she has performed as a classical violinist and as a punk rock musician, gracing venues like CBGB and Carnegie Hall. Her theater credits include roles in 'Anna in the Tropics' and 'The Clean House.' Pimentel serves as the lead vocalist and guitarist in the heavy metal band Alekhine's Gun.
