Jeff Daniels is an American actor who founded the Purple Rose Theatre Company in Michigan. He made his film debut in 1981 with Ragtime and has since appeared in notable films such as The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985), for which he received a Golden Globe nomination, and The Squid and the Whale (2005), earning several accolades for his performance. His other significant works include Speed (1994), Dumb and Dumber (1994), and State of Play (2009). Daniels was also nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor for his role in the Broadway play God of Carnage (2009).
