Jean Stapleton was a stage actress who made her New York stage debut in "The Corn Is Green" (1948). She appeared in notable Broadway productions such as "Damn Yankees" (1955) and "Bells Are Ringing" (1956), later reprising her roles in the film adaptations of both musicals. Stapleton's other significant stage work includes performances in the original productions of "Rhinoceros" (1961) and "Funny Girl" (1964). She also played Abby Brewster in the revival of "Arsenic and Old Lace" during the 1986-87 season. Stapleton lent her voice to the character of Grandmother Willow in "Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World" (1998).
