James Westerfield was an American actor who made his film debut in 1940. He appeared in numerous productions, including The Magnificent Ambersons (1942) and On the Waterfront (1954). Westerfield had a successful stage career, winning two New York Drama Critics' Circle Awards for his performances in The Madwoman of Chaillot and Detective Story. His extensive filmography also includes roles in Lucy Gallant (1955), Birdman of Alcatraz (1962), and True Grit (1969). In addition to film, he had a significant presence on television, featuring in series such as The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters and Perry Mason. He was married to actress Alice G. Fay, and they remained together until his passing in 1971.
