James Baskett was an American actor who portrayed Uncle Remus in the 1946 Disney film Song of the South. He is notable for singing the song "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah," which became widely recognized. Baskett's performance earned him an Honorary Academy Award in 1948, making him the first Black male performer to receive an Oscar. He also lent his voice to the character in Dumbo (1941).
