Jack Kirby was an American comic book artist who created Captain America for Timely Comics in 1940. He entered the comic industry in the 1930s, using various pen names before adopting Jack Kirby. Throughout his career, he co-created numerous characters for Marvel Comics, including the Avengers, the X-Men, and the Hulk, significantly shaping the superhero genre. After a brief period at DC Comics, where he developed the Fourth World saga, Kirby returned to Marvel and later explored television animation. He was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1987 and was posthumously recognized as a Disney Legend in 2017 for his impact on the Marvel franchise.
