Irene Papas is a Greek actress who starred in over 70 films throughout her extensive career. She gained international fame with notable performances in The Guns of Navarone (1961), Zorba the Greek (1964), and Z (1969). Papas portrayed powerful characters in films such as The Trojan Women (1971) and Iphigenia (1977), and she took on the title roles in Antigone (1961) and Electra (1962). Her work earned her Best Actress awards at the Berlin International Film Festival and the National Board of Review. In 1993, she received the Golden Arrow Award at the Hamptons International Film Festival.
