Hristo Shopov is a Bulgarian actor who portrayed Pontius Pilate in Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ (2004). He made his acting debut in 1981 with the film Dishay, choveche (Breathe, Little Man!). Shopov has appeared in various Bulgarian films, including Vchera (Yesterday), which is significant in his homeland, and Sledvay me (Follow Me). He has also been involved in several low-budget American productions such as Phantom Force and Alien Hunter. In addition to his notable role in The Passion of the Christ, he reprised the character of Pontius Pilate in The Inquiry (2006).
