Hong Chau is an American actress who received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Liz in The Whale (2022). She has Vietnamese heritage, with her parents having fled Vietnam and lived in a refugee camp in Thailand before relocating to the United States. Chau grew up in New Orleans and studied film at Boston University before embarking on an acting career. Her notable works include appearances in Downsizing (2017), The Menu (2022), and the series Treme (2010–2013). In addition to her film roles, she has been featured in the HBO series Watchmen (2019) and the Prime Video series Homecoming (2018–2020). Chau played Ngoc Lan Tran in Downsizing, which garnered her critical acclaim.
