Henry Fonda was an American actor who made his Hollywood film debut in 1935. He gained prominence with performances in classic films such as Jezebel (1938), Jesse James (1939), and Young Mr. Lincoln (1939). Fonda received an Academy Award nomination for his role as Tom Joad in The Grapes of Wrath (1940), which is often regarded as one of the greatest American films. He starred in the screwball comedy The Lady Eve (1941) and the westerns The Ox-Bow Incident (1943) and My Darling Clementine (1946). In 1957, he portrayed Juror No. 8 in 12 Angry Men, earning a BAFTA for Best Foreign Actor. Fonda won his Academy Award for Best Actor for his final role in On Golden Pond (1981).
