Harvey Fierstein is an American actor, playwright, and voice actor who won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play for his work in Torch Song Trilogy. He has also received the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his portrayal of Edna Turnblad in Hairspray. Fierstein wrote the book for the musical La Cage aux Folles, earning him the Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical, and worked on the Tony Award-winning Kinky Boots. His film credits include Independence Day (1996), Duplex (2003), and Mulan II (2004). In 2007, he was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame.
