Gregory Peck is an American actor who won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird (1962). He gained initial acclaim with his performance in The Keys of the Kingdom (1944), which earned him his first Oscar nomination. Throughout his career, he starred in numerous significant films, including Roman Holiday (1953), The Guns of Navarone (1961), and Cape Fear (1962). Peck portrayed complex characters often situated in moral dilemmas, as seen in Gentleman's Agreement (1947) and Twelve O'Clock High (1949). In addition to his film work, he was politically active, famously opposing the House Un-American Activities Committee. He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1969 for his humanitarian contributions.
