George Gaynes was a Finnish-born American actor who portrayed Commandant Eric Lassard in the Police Academy series. His film career includes notable roles in Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment (1985), Police Academy 3: Back in Training (1986), Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol (1987), and Police Academy 5: Assignment Miami Beach (1988). In addition to his film work, he played Henry Warnimont in the television series Punky Brewster.
