Garry Shandling was an American stand-up comedian, actor, director, writer, and producer who created and starred in The Larry Sanders Show, which aired from 1992 to 1998. He began his career as a writer for sitcoms like Sanford and Son and Welcome Back, Kotter, and gained prominence through his stand-up performances on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Shandling's first major television project was It's Garry Shandling's Show, which ran from 1986 to 1990 and earned him an Emmy nomination. Throughout his career, he received 19 Primetime Emmy nominations and won one for the series finale of The Larry Sanders Show. He also lent his voice to the character of Verne in Over the Hedge (2006).
