Elmo Nüganen is an Estonian theatre director and film director who has served as the artistic director of the Tallinn City Theatre since 1992. He graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in 1988 and later became a professor there. Nüganen directed the war films Names in Marble (2002), which was selected for the 2003 Taormina Film Fest, and 1944 (2015), which set records for opening-week audience numbers in Estonia and was submitted for the Academy Awards. His accolades include multiple Estonian Annual Theatre Awards for Best Director and the Estonian National Cultural Award. He directed Dawn of War in 2020.
