Elizabeth Spriggs is an English character actress who won the Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1978 for her performance in Arnold Wesker's Love Letters on Blue Paper. She had a distinguished career with the Royal Shakespeare Company, portraying notable roles such as Nurse in Romeo and Juliet, Gertrude in Hamlet, and Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing. Spriggs is well-remembered for her role as Mrs. Jennings in Sense and Sensibility (1995), which earned her a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Her filmography also includes Richard's Things (1980), Impromptu (1991), Paradise Road (1997), and Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001).
