Eileen Heckart was an American actress who won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Butterflies Are Free (1972). Her career spanned nearly six decades, beginning with her notable performance as Rosemary Sydney in the original Broadway cast of Picnic (1953). Heckart often portrayed maternal figures, including roles in Somebody Up There Likes Me (1956), The Bad Seed (1956), and the sitcom Love & War (1992-1993). She also appeared in The First Wives Club (1996), which marked her final film role. In addition to her Oscar, she received two Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award, and was honored with a special Tony Award for lifetime achievement in 2000.
