Douglas Reith is a British actor who played Lord Merton in the television series Downton Abbey (2010–2015). He began his acting career in the late 1970s with a role in International Velvet (1978). Reith worked as an announcer at BBC Radio 3 before pursuing studies at Christ Church, Oxford. He returned to acting and joined Downton Abbey in 2012, earning a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. He reprised his role in the films Downton Abbey (2019) and Downton Abbey: A New Era (2022), and appeared in Tim Burton's Dumbo (2019).
