David Cronenberg is a Canadian film director and screenwriter who is a principal originator of the body horror genre. His notable works include the sci-fi horror films Shivers (1975), Scanners (1981), Videodrome (1983), and The Fly (1986). Cronenberg's films often explore themes of bodily transformation and the intersection of the psychological and technological. He received the Special Jury Prize for Crash at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival, awarded for originality and audacity. His collaborations with Viggo Mortensen include A History of Violence (2005) and Eastern Promises (2007).
