Darren McGavin was an American actor who played the title role in the television horror series Kolchak: The Night Stalker. He gained recognition for his performance as the irritable father in A Christmas Story and portrayed a witty detective in the 1950s series Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer. McGavin starred in the NBC western series Riverboat from 1959 to 1961, first alongside Burt Reynolds and later with Noah Beery, Jr. His film credits include Raw Deal (1986) and other notable works throughout his career.
