Daniel Richter is an American mime and actor who played the leader of a tribe of ape-men in 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968). Initially unknown, he worked primarily as a mime and led a troupe in London before being cast by Stanley Kubrick, who entrusted him with choreographing the film's iconic "Dawn of Man" sequence. Following his role in 2001, Richter appeared in The Revolutionary and published a memoir titled Moonwatcher's Memoir: A Diary of 2001: A Space Odyssey in 2002. He also collaborated with John Lennon and Yoko Ono, featuring in their 1972 Imagine video. Richter is the son of New Yorker cartoonist Mischa Richter.
