Clarence Williams III was an American actor who made his Broadway debut in The Long Dream (1960). He gained fame for his role as undercover cop Linc Hayes in the ABC series The Mod Squad (1968). His extensive career spanned over four decades, featuring performances in films such as Purple Rain (1984), Deep Cover (1992), and Reindeer Games (2000). Williams also appeared in various television series, including Miami Vice, Twin Peaks, and Law & Order. He received a Tony Award nomination for his performance in Slow Dance on the Killing Ground. Williams portrayed Bumpy Johnson in American Gangster and lent his voice to Councilor Andam in American Dragon: Jake Long.
