Clarence Gilyard Jr. was a university professor and actor who portrayed Lieutenant Evan "Sundown" Gough in Top Gun (1986). He gained recognition for his role as James "Jimmy" Trivette, the Texas Ranger partner of Cordell Walker in the series Walker, Texas Ranger during the 1990s. Gilyard also played Theo, the terrorist computer expert in Die Hard, and appeared as Conrad McMasters in the legal drama Matlock from 1989 to 1993. Additionally, he featured as Pastor Bruce Barnes in the first two Left Behind films. His diverse career spanned film, television, and stage productions.
