Candice Bergen is an American actress who won five Primetime Emmy Awards for her role in the sitcom Murphy Brown (1988–1998, 2018–2019). She began her career as a fashion model and made her film debut in The Group (1966). Bergen appeared in notable films such as The Sand Pebbles (1966), Starting Over (1979), and Miss Congeniality (2000). She also played Shirley Schmidt in the series Boston Legal (2005–2008) and starred in the Broadway revival of The Best Man (2012). Her recent work includes Book Club: The Next Chapter (2023).
