Bernard Hill is an English actor who portrayed Captain Edward John Smith in Titanic (1997). A character actor with a prolific career, he has appeared in nearly 130 projects across film, stage, and television. Hill gained prominence for his role as Yosser Hughes in the influential 1982 TV series Boys from the Blackstuff. His film credits include King Théoden in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Warden of San Quentin Prison in True Crime (1999), and roles in Gothika (2003) and ParaNorman (2012). He is notable for being the only actor to feature in multiple films that received 11 Oscars, including Titanic and The Return of the King.
