Barbara Shelley was a prominent English actress who became Hammer Horror's leading female star during the late 1950s and 1960s. She gained recognition for her roles in films such as The Gorgon (1964), Dracula, Prince of Darkness (1966), and Quatermass and the Pit (1967). Her filmography includes appearances in Village of the Damned (1960) and the Doctor Who serial Planet of Fire (1984). In 2010, she was featured in a BBC documentary series, A History of Horror, where she discussed her experiences at Hammer Films. Shelley starred in The Camp on Blood Island (1958).
