Avery Brooks is an American actor who played Captain Benjamin Sisko in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. His professional acting career began in 1970 with the play The Great White Hope, followed by notable appearances in Broadway productions such as The Wiz and A Chorus Line. Brooks gained further recognition for his role as Dr. Bob Sweeney in the film American History X and starred in the series Shark from 2006 to 2008. He has also directed various theater productions and television episodes. Brooks won a Saturn Award for Best Actor on Television in 1995 for his performance in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
