Anthony Perkins is an American actor and singer who played Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960). He made his film debut in The Actress (1953) and gained acclaim for his Oscar-nominated performance in Friendly Persuasion (1956). Perkins became a prominent figure in Hollywood, starring alongside notable actors such as Henry Fonda in The Tin Star, Sophia Loren in Desire Under the Elms, and Audrey Hepburn in Green Mansions. After leaving Hollywood in 1960, he enjoyed success in Europe with films like Aimez-vous Brahms? and Phaedra. He returned to Hollywood in 1968 with Pretty Poison, which gained a cult following. Perkins received a Golden Globe and a Cannes Award during his career, and he co-wrote The Last of Sheila in 1973.
