Alun Armstrong is an English character actor who originated the role of Thénardier in the London production of Les Misérables. His career began in the early 1970s, and he has portrayed a wide range of characters. Armstrong's extensive filmography includes notable works such as Patriot Games (1992), The Saint (1997), and Proof of Life (2000). He played the quirky ex-detective Brian Lane in the series New Tricks. In addition to his film and television work, Armstrong has had a significant stage career, winning an Olivier Award for his performance in Sweeney Todd.
