Alison Steadman is an English actor who won the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Actress in 1991 for her performance in Life is Sweet. She made her professional stage debut in 1968 and became well-known through Mike Leigh's television plays, including Nuts in May (1976) and Abigail's Party (1977). Steadman has appeared in various television series, such as Pride and Prejudice (1995) and Gavin & Stacey (2007–10, 2019), and films like A Private Function (1984) and Shirley Valentine (1989). She received BAFTA TV Award nominations for The Singing Detective (1986) and Fat Friends (2000–05).
