Alex Newell is an American actor and singer who won the 2023 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for their role in Shucked. They gained prominence for portraying Unique Adams in the Fox musical series Glee and Mo in Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist. Newell also starred as Asaka in the 2018 Broadway revival of Once on This Island. In addition to acting, they have collaborated musically with Clean Bandit, Blonde, and The Knocks. Newell and J. Harrison Ghee made history as the first openly non-binary actors to receive and win a Tony Award.
