Aleksandr Kaydanovskiy is a Soviet actor and film director who played the title role in Stalker (1979). He began his acting studies at The Rostov Theatre School and later at the Shchukin theatrical school in Moscow, debuting in film with The Mysterious Wall. Kaydanovskiy gained prominence with his performance in At Home Among Strangers and became one of the USSR’s most popular actors during the 1970s. He collaborated with notable director Andrei Tarkovsky, who cast him in Stalker, a role that brought him international recognition. In addition to acting, he directed A Simple Death in 1985, which was featured at the Cannes Film Festival. Kaydanovskiy also directed Just Death in 1993, focusing on Leo Tolstoy's demise.
