Al Matthews is a folk singer and musical performer who transitioned to acting after living in England. He played the role of Sergeant Apone in the film Aliens (1986). Matthews had a notable military career, becoming the first black Marine to be meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant during the Vietnam War. He also made history as the first black voice on England's national station, Radio 1. In addition to his acting, he continued to write and perform music throughout his life.
