Aileen Wuornos was an American serial killer who gained notoriety for murdering seven men in Florida between 1989 and 1990. She asserted that her actions were in self-defense against those who had assaulted her while she was engaged in prostitution. Wuornos was convicted of six murders and subsequently executed by lethal injection in Florida in 2002.
