Set against the backdrop of a sprawling, decaying mansion in the English countryside, the story unfolds when David is summoned to investigate mysterious occurrences linked to the tragic death of a young woman. The mansion, with its dark past and chilling atmosphere, serves as the stage for David's exploration of the supernatural, inviting him to confront not only the specters of the house but also the ghosts of his own past. Alongside him is the ethereal Anna, portrayed by Kate Beckinsale, who becomes both a companion and a catalyst for David's journey into the unknown. As David delves deeper into the mansion's secrets, the film's tone shifts from a seemingly quaint exploration of the past to a haunting confrontation with unresolved trauma and the impact of familial legacies. The central conflict revolves around themes of love, loss, and the lingering shadows of unfinished business that haunt both the living and the dead. The film adeptly blends elements of mystery, horror, and fantasy, creating a taut atmosphere that underscores the emotional weight of its narrative.
