About Cat Person

Cat Person is a 2023 Thriller and Comedy film running 1 h 58 min. Originally in English, produced in France and United States. It holds an IMDb rating of 6.0 based on 8,718 votes.

In "Cat Person," directed by Susanna Fogel, the story unfolds in a contemporary college setting, centering on Margot, a young woman played by Emilia Jones, who grapples with the complexities of modern dating. The narrative is sparked when she meets Robert, portrayed by Nicholas Braun, through a series of messaging exchanges that blur the lines between attraction and discomfort. What begins as an intriguing online flirtation quickly escalates, revealing the vulnerabilities and uncertainties that accompany a young woman's foray into romance. The film deftly navigates the themes of identity and the often fraught dynamics of dating, particularly in the digital age. As Margot's initial excitement turns into a conflict of emotional and moral dimensions, the tone shifts to one that is both taut and darkly comedic. Fogel's direction captures the anxieties of a college student confronting societal expectations regarding relationships and sexuality, including the nuances of asexuality. The genre blends elements of thriller and comedy, creating a narrative that both entertains and provokes thought about the complexities of connection and consent. "Cat Person," released in 2023, hails from France and has generated considerable interest due to its roots in a widely discussed short story published in The New Yorker. The film resonates with audiences who navigate the intricacies of dating in a digital landscape, particularly young adults and those familiar with the pressures of contemporary romance. Its exploration of timely themes has sparked conversations about dating culture, making it a relevant addition to the discussions surrounding relationships in cinema today.
