Todd Phillips is an American filmmaker who directed the psychological thriller Joker (2019), which won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. He began his career in 1993 and gained recognition in the 2000s with films like Road Trip, Old School, Starsky & Hutch, and School for Scoundrels. Phillips became widely known in the early 2010s for his work on The Hangover trilogy, consisting of The Hangover (2009), The Hangover Part II (2011), and The Hangover Part III (2013). His work on Joker earned him three Academy Award nominations, including Best Director. Phillips was previously nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for Borat at the 79th Academy Awards.
