Michael Nyman is an English composer of minimalist music who created the score for The Piano (1993). He has collaborated extensively with director Peter Greenaway on several films, including The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989) and Prospero's Books (1991). Nyman's work spans various genres, and he is also a pianist and musicologist. His soundtrack for The Piano achieved multi-platinum status. He composed music for 9 Songs (2004).
